Transport for Guests to the Tegernsee Valley
Regional Buses
Soon enough you will know to look for local buses with the blue and green RVO logo – as these are free to use for all in possession of a valid Guest Card. Your host will be available to provide this Guest Card to you upon arrival, and it will take you all around the lake as well as into the surrounding region. Also ask your host for local departure times. Drivers will try and help you and know where to let you off for the main sights around the valley.
Train stations
BOB trains to Munich run every hour from Gmund and Tegernsee. It is important that you buy and validate your ticket before boarding the train (stick your ticket into one of the blue ticket validation machines). There is a ticket vending machine in Gmund and a ticket counter in Tegernsee, which is manned whilst trains are running (ca. 6 am to 9 pm).
Changing in Schaftlach or Holzkirchen, you can also reach many other attractive Upper Bavarian destinations by BOB, such as Lenggries, Schliersee and Bayrischzell. When returning from Munich, make sure you are seated in the correct carriage (It should say destination ‘Tegernsee’ over the door and on the displays inside), as the compartments are separated during the trip.
Luggage pick-up
There is a door to door luggage delivery service by the Deutsche Bahn (DB), except on Sundays and holidays. Phone +49 (0) 8022/937965
Taxis
Taxi ranks are located next to the Gmund and Tegernsee train stations as well as in the town centre of Rottach-Egern and Bad Wiessee. Please ask us for a comprehensive list of taxi services including airport shuttles and all-night services.
Bikes
A large number of hotels offer rental bikes for free or for a rental fee. The many bike and mountain bike shops in the valley will get you onto two wheels. Biking is the healthiest way to get about, and many scenic cycling paths make it great fun. If a sudden downpour of rain should occur, you can take a break at a cosy inn or take your bike home by RVO bus.
