International Chess Open
Make your move in Bad Wiessee!
Join the excitement of the Bad Wiessee International Chess Open hosted in Lake Tegerensee's most famous spa town with its brand new casino and extensive indoor pool and sauna, this event promises its guests and participants from all over the world an exhilarating few days. 16,500 euros of prize money is awaiting the lucky winners. The tournament is open and based on the Swiss system, played in 9 rounds. Rate of play: 2 hours for 40 moves, followed by another hour for the rest of the game. 400 to 450 participants are expected.
Once again, the running of the event will be in the competent hands of Bad Wiessee’s tourist information centre - under the management of Peter Rie and his capable and charming ladies. One great surprise is the unprecedented participation by ‘Russian Bear’ Artur Jussupow, who founded the tournament together with his partner Horst Leckner in 1997 and has been supporting it with his expert advice ever since. Organisational responsibilities as well as other duties including his chess academy never permitted him to partake in the competition. Artur Jussupow has played many international tournaments for his country in the past and was represented in Wiessee by his daughter Ekaterina and others – the latter fulfilled the criteria for the Woman International Master title last year.
