How to get to Lake Tegernsee

The Tegernsee holiday region is situated in scenic Upper Bavaria, at the foot of the Alps. Our wide, sunny valley with the lake at its midst is located only 50 km south of Munich. Here, amid gentle rolling hills and wooded mountains, at 725 metres above sea level, you can expect to find both exceptional beauty and a great variety of leisure and sports activities.

By car:

From the north: Take the motorway A8 Munich-Salzburg to the exit Holzkirchen, then follow signs to Tegernsee on the B318/B307.

From the south: Coming from Innsbruck (Austria), travel northward through the Inn Valley on local roads or on the motorway (leaving it at Wiesing exit), then via Lake Achensee and the B307. Coming from Salzburg (Austria), follow the motorway A8 Salzburg-Munich to the exit Irschenberg, then follow the signs to Tegernsee.

By train:

Several long-distance Deutche Bahn trains from all over Germany and Europe arrive at Munich Hauptbahnhof (central station) every day. Trains leave to Gmund or Tegernsee, whence onward transport by bus (free with your guest Guest Card) or taxi is available. Make sure you buy and validate your BOB ticket in advance and that your train carriage displays Tegernsee as its destination.

By plane:

Munich airport is located a one and a half hour’s drive (90 km) from Lake Tegernsee, and you can easily rent a car from there. Alternatively, catch a suburban train (S1 or S8) or the airport shuttle bus to Munich Hauptbahnhof (central station), where you can then take either the RVO-bus (from Arnulfstraße) or the much faster BOB train to Gmund and Tegernsee (see above).
