A Paradise for Hikers

The New Health Walking Park

Since 2007, many visitors have enjoyed the new Health Walking Park, a network of 27 hiking trails and 16 Nordic Walking tracks round Lake Tegernsee. Whether you are a complete beginner or a hardened expert, fit or hoping to get there, looking for a health buzz or to rebuild your stamina after an accident or illness – the Health Walking Park comes with the optimal challenge for everyone and some stunning landscapes into the bargain. 25 wall charts have been erected around the 5 lakeshore towns, informing you about the various paths, their lengths and degrees of difficulty. Also described are the air quality, intensity of sunshine, pollination, temperatures and caloric burn-off value of each route.

Nature Trails

Germany is renowned not only for its neat towns and groomed landscapes, but also for an approach to the natural world around us that calls us to respect, tend and also learn to understand it. The tradition of nature trails was started in the US, and in the Tegernsee Valley you will find a number of well-tended ones worthy of discovery:

Tegernsee – Larch Copse Experience Trail: Walderlebnispfad Lärchenwald from Tegernsee town centre to the pavilion called 'Großes Paraplui'

Gmund - lakeshore trail between Seeglas and Kaltenbrunn exploring its biosphere; explanatory booklet available for consultation at 5 points on the path; also available from the Tourist Information Centre Gmund

Kreuth - Adventure & Wood Trail ‘Weißachau-Erlebnispfad’, a 2 km long trail on the right-hand bank of the Weißach River

Alpine Education Trail: ‘Alpenlehrpfad’ from Wallberghaus towards Mount Risserkogel (3.5 km Alpine trail, total ascent of 326 m)

Rottach-Egern - Celtic Tree Circle along the Rottach River between Tuften and Kalkofen, with preserved Celtic tree horoscope

Bad Wiessee - Scent and Touch Gardens on the Lake Promenade, legends also in braille

Memorable Tours Around Lake Tegernsee

A number of breathtakingly beautiful longer tours lead over 4 to 11 km along the lakeshore, through idyllic meadows, forests and valleys and on into the surrounding mountains. With a total length of 310 km, this touring network includes diverse circular tours as well as extensive woodland hikes which take you from one town to the next. Your Guest Card provides free public transport back to your starting point – and in most cases to somewhere close enough to your accommodation.  Alternatively, you might prefer to hop on one of the Lake Boats to take you home and cherish the setting sun whilst gliding over the shimmering water.

Air Quality Like Nowhere Else

The Health Climate hiking paths and tours are of outstanding physiological and therapeutic value due to the sheer quality of the air. Located in higher regions above 800 to 1,000 m, they will help pump your lungs full of pure and refreshingly cool air. You will not be exposed to strenuous amounts of direct sunshine and will be able to withstand the morning coldness or a sudden weather change with the right equipment. Most paths are open year round, are gentle on the joints and lead you through terrain where sun and shadow intersperse. The idea is to strengthen and tone the muscles by means of steady but gentle exercise. This helps to build stamina and resilience and saves the airways.

Do check out the Health Walking Park in advance or upon arrival, assemble your very own set of routes – and return home a fitter and more balanced person! Our advice is to counteract physical ailments as soon as they occur and to build enjoyable exercise into your holiday programme as a preventive measure. Find out how little it takes to take better care of yourself. Please note: on Mondays and from Wednesday to Saturday, guided tours are available under the supervision of certified Health Walking Instructors.
